Definition of "Hue" by Graphic Design Newcastle:

In color theory, "Hue" refers to the purest form of a color, without any tint (white added), shade (black added), or tone (gray added). It is what most people commonly think of as "color" — such as red, blue, yellow, green, etc.

Hue is one of the main properties of color, along with saturation (intensity) and brightness (lightness or value). On the color wheel, hues are arranged in a circular format, representing the spectrum of visible colors.

For example:

  • Red, blue, and yellow are primary hues.
  • Green, orange, and purple are secondary hues (created by mixing primary hues).

In graphic design, understanding hue is essential for creating harmonious color schemes and effective visual communication.
