Italics

Definition of "Italics" by Graphic Design Newcastle:

Italics refers to a style of typeface in which the letters slant to the right. Italic type is commonly used to emphasize specific words or phrases within a body of text. It can also indicate titles of works (such as books, films, or artworks), foreign words, or internal thoughts in writing.

In typography, italics are often designed as a distinct typeface rather than simply a slanted version of the regular (roman) font. True italics typically feature unique letterforms that differ from their upright counterparts, especially in serif typefaces.
